Lutris
Lutris is a universal game manager that can install and configure games from almost any source. It handles Wine, runners, and emulators automatically using community-maintained install scripts.
Installation
What Lutris is Good For
- Battle.net - World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, Overwatch 2 and other Blizzard titles. Lutris has maintained install scripts for all of them.
- EA App & Origin - EA titles not available on Steam. Lutris scripts handle the launcher setup automatically.
- Ubisoft Connect - Ubisoft games that aren’t on Steam. Lutris manages the Ubisoft Connect launcher.
- GOG Games - DRM-free titles from GOG. Alternative to Heroic with more Wine control.
Install Scripts
Lutris community scripts automatically configure Wine, set the right runtime, and apply known fixes for hundreds of games. Browse and install directly from lutris.net. Clicking Install on the website opens Lutris and starts the setup.
Runners
Wine: Generic Windows games and apps
The most common runner. Lutris manages Wine versions automatically, no setup needed.
Wine-GE: Wine with Proton patches
Great for newer Windows games. Uses the same Proton patches as Steam but outside of Steam.
DOSBox: Old DOS games
For classic PC games from the 80s and 90s.
ScummVM: Classic adventure games
LucasArts, Sierra, and other point-and-click adventures.
RetroArch and standalone emulators
RPCS3 (PS3), PPSSPP (PSP), Dolphin (GameCube/Wii), Citra (3DS), and many more. All manageable through Lutris.
Emulation
For emulation, RetroArch covers hundreds of consoles in a single app. Install RetroArch from Arc Store.
Before spending time configuring a Windows game in Lutris, check if it’s on Steam first. Steam with Proton is usually easier to get running.
Storage
- Extra Drives - Set up and mount a second hard drive or SSD before adding it here.
Lutris does not auto-detect drives. You need to set the path manually:
- Open Lutris, open the top-right menu and go to Preferences
- Under Game Library, add your mount point as an additional games folder
- Compatibility & Anti-Cheat - ProtonDB ratings explained, anti-cheat status per game, and which multiplayer games work on Linux.
