Steam

Steam has the best Linux game support of any launcher, built around Proton which lets Windows games run natively on Linux.

Changing the Proton Version

Proton is active by default. If a game has issues, try switching the Proton version. Proton-GE is a community build with extra patches and media codecs that often fixes games the official Proton can’t handle.

Per Game

  1. Right-click the game in your library and open Properties
  2. Go to the Compatibility tab
  3. Check Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
  4. Pick a version from the dropdown. Try Proton Experimental first, then Proton-GE if that doesn’t help

All Games (Global)

  1. Open Steam and go to Settings
  2. Under Compatibility, enable Steam Play for all other titles
  3. Pick a default Proton version from the dropdown

Per-game overrides always take priority over the global setting.

Install ProtonUp-Qt from Arc Store to download and manage Proton-GE versions. Versions appear automatically in Steam’s compatibility tool list.

Storage

  • Extra Drives - Set up and mount a second hard drive or SSD before adding it here.

Mounted drives are detected automatically. Open Steam and go to Settings then Storage. Your drive should already appear in the list. If it does not, add it manually:

  1. Click the + button and select your mount point (for example /mnt/data)
  2. Optionally set it as the default install location
